Join Dr Yeptain Leung online for an overview of the role of speech pathology in gender-affirming voice care. This two-part Clinical Bite will provide you with relevant foundational theories and ways to improve culturally-sensitivity, methods of assessment, and practical evidence-based strategies when working with trans and gender diverse clients on their voice. The sessions will include demonstrations of exercises, and a plethora of resources for further training.
Upon successful completion of this Clinical Bite, participants will be able to:
Registrants must be speech pathologists or speech Pathology students who have undertaken relevant lectures, coursework or clinical placements. This is an introductory Clinical Bite, designed for participants who are new to the topic or have limited prior knowledge. This level focuses on foundational concepts, key terminology, and basic practical applications to build initial understanding and confidence.
Dr Yeptain Leung
Dr Yeptain Leung is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at The University of Melbourne with specialism in voice sciences and disorders. He undertook his PhD at La Trobe University on voice and speaker gender perception. Yeptain's research currently focuses on gender-affirming voice care. He is a committee member of the Asian Professional Association for Transgender Health and has received multiple government grants to support his provision of gender-affirming voice services for the trans and gender diverse population in Hong Kong. In 2016, he was awarded the Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship to undertake specialist research and coursework in trans and gender diverse voice and communication at Karolinska Institutet. Yeptain also sits on the Education Committee of the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health leading educational initiatives in this space. He has received multiple Diversity and Inclusion grants to support the setup of The University of Melbourne's very own gender-affirming voice clinic together with Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics’ speech pathology clinic which provides members of the University community and public quality, culturally-sensitive, gender-affirming voice care services and be an active hub for ongoing research initiatives.

What is a Clinical Bite? A Clinical Bite is a webinar-style session that is primarily lecture-based. Cameras and microphones are not required for participants. While there is usually a Q&A session at the end where you can type questions to the presenter, the session does not involve interactive activities.
Do I need a Zoom account to join? No – most participants can join directly using the Zoom link provided. Occasionally, Zoom may prompt you to sign in, especially if you’re joining via a browser or mobile device. If that happens, you can create a free Zoom account or sign in to an existing one.

Will this Clinical Bite be recorded? Yes. This Clinical Bite will be recorded and turned into an On Demand product that includes the recording and workshop materials.
