Meet Karen - mother of Leo

Karen's son Leo is a 10-year-old boy who has a love for creative story-telling, drawing and languages, despite having communication challenges.

When Leo was a toddler he was diagnosed with a speech language delay, and then when he was six his family was told he had autism.

Leo has had speech pathology support for many years. His mother, Karen, says he has come a long way and can express himself with not too much difficulty.

Leo gets frustrated and anxious when he can’t get his message across or find the right words in a conversation. That’s when others need to give him space and time to communicate.
