Meet Kirby

Kirby was a teacher but in 2014 was diagnosed with a brainstem tumour.  The surgery to remove the tumour caused strokes to both sides of her brain and resulted in quadriplegia.

After the surgery, Kirby could not talk or swallow due to a tracheotomy. She worked hard with her speech pathologist over the next 18 months, and now speaks to communicate most of the time.

Well, I feel confident with people that know me and can understand that I do gestures and my expressions say a lot.

Kirby is a strong advocate for young people with communication disability.

... by being an example of how you can overcome disability to communicate verbally.
